WastelandsRPG was the first major non-Crime RPG that was made based on the MSRP rule-sets and ideas, although it never grew to great activity levels, it did find some limited success in some more-active periods of play. At a max there were around 20 players who participated in the roleplaying at WastelandsRPG.

Details
In this game you can play as three different sides to a story (or even more if you consider the lone-wolf player, or even start your own faction). In this alternate time-line it is exactly 5 years in the future in a world where the Soviet Union still existed for a while until a nuclear war had begun.
During this war the Soviet Union in a last ditch effort to save their country against the American onslaught launched a barrage of biological weapons - one of which was the Scourge - a biological agent designed to turn the populace into a sub-human lot of flesh-eating crazed madmen (and women). Unfortunately, or fortunately for the Americans, the weapon did not work as designed. After this failure they launched the last of their nuclear arms that were functioning and wiped each other out - for the most part.
The game takes place in a devastated New York City, and each day in real time is analogous to each day of game time. Due to the dust and ash created by the mass use of nuclear arms, the weather is 20 degrees cooler than what is normal, and the weather patterns are more erratic. Sub-zero winters are followed by stormy springs and ungodly hot summers. Weather patterns have been changed royally, and hurricanes can slam into New York without warning (however the Weather is controlled by the staff and is usually set out in weekly patterns unless otherwise noted).
Because your starting character (assumed to be a non-zombie when you start) is infected, upon your death at the hands of other players, zombies, or staff, you too can become a zombie. However, special circumstances will thwart this - such as a stake to the heart or decapitation - or massive (obliteration) injury to the cerebellum and spinal cord above the C3 vertebrae.
In the game you are to write out your trials, and your progress, and above all you must survive. It is not how long you can survive, or how far up any chain of command or horde you can go - it is just the act of defying the inevitable death that lets you know you are not losing. Win? There is no win. There is just survive.
